The Tomato Whisperer decided to come up this weekend to visit - speaking of the Tomato Whisperer, I must tell you that we are still eating home grown tomatoes from his garden. The tomato plants died in September. It is now almost February. 5 months have passed and we still have about 30 edible tomatoes from the Tomato Whisperer's tomato plants. For those of you who might not remember, when the plants died, I picked 850 tomatoes off of 3 plants. Here, see for yourself.
Anyway, the Tomato Whisperer came up for the weekend and on Saturday night we decided to go to the Olive Garden for dinner. The wait was between 50 and 70 minutes so we checked the restaurant across the street which also had an hour wait. It was obvious that anywhere worth eating was going to have a substantial wait on a Saturday night but we were hungry. The bar area was full so we couldn't even get a drink and an appetizer. So we did the only logical thing we could think of.
We walked across the parking lot and had an appetizer cheeseburger at McDonald's.
If that's not classy, I don't know what is.

Are we related? My father has a tomato garden that overwhelms the entire state of IL every year.
I would have gone with appetizer McNuggets, myself.
Bwwhahah! Now that's funny! 850 tomatoes off of 3 plants that's amazing!
Store tomatoes are the devil! (I still have 3 nice red summer tomatoes hoarded in my fridge.) Taught my mom all the Nevada tricks for ripening when she moved here--I think she may still have a few on her garage floor.
I wish I had a tomato whisperer - I cannot seem to get the hang of growing my own tomatoes.
I love Olive Garden. If I were with you I would have totally gone to McDonald's too.
So did you still go to Olive Garden?
I had no idea tomatoes lasted that long after picking! Because the ones we buy in the store barely make it home before starting to turn on us.
the fact that the wait at olive garden/macaroni grill and the like can be over an hour on the weekends amazes me. why dont i get it? is it the free bread sticks? what?
You clever rascals! :)

I love tomatoes. I have always wanted to grow tomatoes. But out of three plants, I might net an actual two tomatoes, certainly not 850. That is simply amazing!!!
I totally would have had a cheeseburger as a "warm up" for my meal. You have to stretch your muscles when you work out-why not stretchyour stomach when you eat? Makes perfect sense!
OMG - that's gr8! Now, that's some hardy eating. Thx for your visit and have a nice hump day :)
850 tomatoes! WOW! I love tomatoes.
Jane ~ my dad has a farm in IL but he doesn't grow tomatoes there...he should though!
pogonip ~ I would never have guessed that the desert is such a great place to grow tomatoes!
don mills ~ I can send you some of ours!
tootsie ~ oh, we still went to the Olive Garden. McDonald's was just a warm up.
Karen ~ I think tomatoes only last that long for my dad because he has magical tomato powers.
disa ~ um, people go because it's awesome.
jules ~ we ARE clevel rascals, aren't we?!?
pinkpuffysleeves ~ he is seriously a tomato whisperer...
sarah ~ exactly - it was a warm up!
rhonda ~ happy hump day to you!
anne ~ yes, but do you love 850 tomatoes???
McDonald's cheeseburgers as an appetizer... How great would it have been to serve them as appetizer's at my wedding? Only now do I begin to understand. ;)
Now I'm drooling for home-grown tomatoes.
And I think a cheeseburger is a perfectly acceptable warm-up to Olive Garden.
So love home grown tomatoes, but 850 of them even I couldn't manage to eat that many LOL
and yes I am affraid I would have had the cheese burger as my starter!
Man, we ran out of tomatoes back in November. I am jealous.
Must have some of those tomatoes!!! That is astounding!!! I wish you lived closer so you could SHARE!!! (because I know you are a very giving person, right?)
That is too funny about the McDonalds. I myself would have had a large fry. I can't get enough of those things!! My thighs are NOT happy about it.
very impressive--but I don't think I know anyone else who would counts their 850 tomatoes!
dana ~ I would totally share my tomatoes with you.
val ~ I had to count the tomatoes because I knew it would be a lot and I had to have an exact number to report to the Tomato Whisperer - he requires such information.
I'm jealous of home grown tomatoes.
