In 5th grade I was a member of the school's chorus. It wasn't until middle school that they required you to audition and prove your ability to at least recognize a musical note in order to be allowed to participate. In elementary school anyone interested was encouraged to be a chorus member. So I joined. I never lacked any enthusiasm when it came to singing. In fact, I still remember some of the songs we sang in 5th grade chorus. I regularly break into song about how, "OH, WHOA, IT'S RUFF, RUFF, RUFF, RUFF, BEING A DOG, EATING DINNER OUT OF A CAN..." Doug's ears regularly bleed.
I apparently also didn't lack any volume in my singing. This fact was brought to my attention when, after a particular chorus practice in 5th grade, the teacher took me aside and asked if it would be possible for me to sing "less loudly."
Apparently my goose-being-strangled singing voice was drowning out the beautiful melodies of the other children.

You just keep on singing. Sing like no one can hear you. I'm sure Liver appreciates your talents.
Um, I've heard that as long as you are trying, that is good enough for God. If its good enough for God, surely Doug can learn to love it. :)
LOL!
I was in chorus when I was in elementary school too. One time the school librarian accused me of not singing during a holiday concert. I went into the bathroom and cried cause I really did sing. The bitch must have been senile, and I made damn sure that she and everybody else knew that I was singing the next time. ;)
Too funny!
When I was in jr high our band class was to put on a Christmas concert - I played the clarinette...for the concert the teacher thought it best for me to play with no ried...I was that bad!
Thanks for sharing!
Your teacher just didn't want the other children to be jealous that they didn't sound as good as you.
That is hilarious! Hey, singing is definitely not MY best asset, however it makes me happy too. LOL So sing away!! (we'll wear ear plugs, if need be!)
ahh, the enthusiasm of a child, I love it. Keep that spirit!
Aww, I'm sure they didn't want you getting all of the attention :)
I say sing, sing, sing!
I heard recently that singing loudly will get you into a part quicker than singing on key. You've got it going on, girl!
You and I should get together for some karaoke and destroy the world.
Hahahah. I have the voice, too. I mean I can belt a mellow song and you'd think I'm singing song from a Pantera album!
How dare she try to stifle your talent?! lol It's about the love of music, not the talent. Sing away, babe!
That's so funny. Do you sing in the shower too...
I break out into song regularly also...but only those weird chorusy kiddy tunes!!!! Dude, we're like, soul mates or something.
The song I remember goes something like this...
Memememememe (warming up my voice)
Oh, Senor Del Gato was a cat
On a high red roof Del Gato sat
He was there to read a letter...
Meow, meow, meow
Where the reading light was better
Meow, meow, meow
Twas a loooooove note for Del Ga-to
So...are your ears bleeding yet?
lunanik ~ OH. MY. GOD. I totally know that song from elementary school music class!!!
I cant sing worth a crap either!
I can't sing and I know it and I actually hate it when people hear me because I know I'm awful.
As someone else said, keep singing! I wish I could sing without worrying about how bad I sound!
Pshaw, you sing as loud as you want to, woman. The louder the better!
