Maybe All The Rulers Are Wrong

The step building project is complete!

Last week was spent lamenting the fact that we were unable to get the step level. It was off 1/8 of an inch over 16 feet which to me means nothing but to Doug means that the world is going to explode. So, after much cursing and fist pounding, a system was devised by which the step is perfectly level which means that when I trip and fall off of it, I can only blame it on my own clumsiness, not on the fact that it's not level.

The dogs helped by chewing all the pieces of scrap wood. We had to make sure that they didn't eat the pressure treated pieces because those have arsenic on them. So Spider chewed the redwood pieces.

He forgot that he can't digest wood so shortly after this picture was taken, he went and puked up wood fragments all over the yard. After that, in true dog-like fashion, he went straight back to chewing wood and then puked twice more inside the house. No one ever said that Spider was smart.

Ralph, realizing the error in Spider's ways, chose a different route...

He chose to chew on some tumbleweed instead. I would not choose to chew on tumbleweed seeings as it is covered in thorns but Ralph was apparently not upset by that fact.

As you can tell from the background of this picture, we are not having a shortage on tumbleweed. That's not even all the tumbleweed in our yard. It's everywhere and it's multiplying. It's not exactly decorative and I'm beginning to worry that the amount of tumbleweed in your yard is directly proportionate to the level of white trash your family is considered. If that is true, we just might win the prize for most white trash family in the neighborhood; that's how much tumbleweed we have.

I would LOVE tumbleweed. It would make me sing like a 1950s cowboy.

You are too funny. The deck looks absolutely lovely. I can't wait to trip off of it.

When I was in the doctor's office I was looking through this very posh home decorating magazine and I stopped in shock when I saw that someone had used a tumble weed as a decoration on their wall. It was just hanging there like it was a picture of a family member or something. I think that's dumb. The end.

For whatever it's worth, my reaction to discovering ANY leveling discrepancies would have been the same as yours, Papi. But now, sleep the sleep of the victorious!

Okay, when you said step, I was thinking the standard 3 feet wide. I think that is more like a titanic step, or a t-rex sized step or something.

P.S. I can trip and not even be standing up, so don't feel bad!

Oh yeah, and there is a club here in OK called the Tumbleweed. Perhaps you could make a rather sizeable donation....

pinkpuffysleeves ~ Seriously, will you ask that club if they would like me to send them some tumbleweed? I totally will do it.

Christine ~ Would you like me to send you some tumbleweed as well? I'm not joking - I will box some up and mail it to you...

My dogs were chewing on the prunings from my fruit trees this weekend. No hurling yet.

Love the new deck and the level step. The yard is coming right along!

I've seen tumbleweed snowmen (take one little, one medium and one large tumbleweed...) and my aunt flocked several and piled'em up into a Christmas tree one year, complete with lights and ornaments. It looked way better than it sounds!

That's more than just a step!! that's like a "mini deck" and it looks great! And by my calculations 1/8th of an inch over 16 feet is %0.065 error. Who notices that!?!

It looks awesome! Now if you fall you can't blame it on the step not being level that is for sure. I can't believe how much tumbleweed you have in the backyard. When I was there you didn't have so much! I think tumbleweed is kinda neet. Weird, but cool.

Get your cowboy boy boots on and do a jig around the weed. Or spray paint it in decorative colors until you can plant...like green.

Heheh. I cannot beleive Spider ate redwood after the first puke. No I don't think he's stupid either. Maybe just funny too. You are.

I'm thinking Spider was starved for attention. He figured if he took his stupidity to a new level by barfing repeatedly, maybe he would finally get some more bloggy love. It worked, so really he's a genius.

burgh baby's mom ~ Spider is always looking for more attention. Puking is just one of his many tactics...

I don't think I've ever actually seen tumbleweed before...huh.

P.S. Great work so far!!
