As you know, we've been plugging along at our backyard landscaping. The completion of the deck step last weekend was quite exciting but the work didn't end there. On Friday we had 20 yards of dirt delivered to our house. We needed these 20 yards of dirt to put on top of the pre-existing 8 million yards of dirt in our backyard.
Do you know how much they charge for dirt? It's a lot. As a wedding gift we received two gift cards to a local nursery which covered most of the cost of the dirt. So, Kyle & Amber and Mary & Roger, thanks for all the dirt!

Seeing as I have never before purchased any number of yards of dirt, I had to be informed that 20 was a lot - something like 100 wheelbarrows full. So I decided that we needed help. I sent out an all-call email to all of our non-pregnant friends who live nearby (I have to qualify that I only invited the non-pregnant friends because we have quite a few friends who are pregnant and I'm pretty sure got that way just to get out of helping us landscape. Clever bitches.)
And this is how we learned that we have the best friends, um, ever. Everyone showed up to help. They brought their own tools, they brought their own wheelbarrows, they brought THEIR OWN BOBCATS. Yeah, that's right - our friend Pat (you know him - he doesn't eat dessert, he drinks beer) has a bobcat.

And did I mention that not a single one of them is related to us and therefore obligated to help? It's true. They're just great people.
(And yes, that is additional tumbleweed to the tumbleweed you saw last weekend. It's multiplying and we're not quite sure what to do...)We did pay them with Port Of Subs sandwiches and Miller High Life (the champagne of beers) which, I mean, what could be better? But still.
We got all the dirt moved into the backyard - thanks guys, for all your help, we really appreciate it!
Next it's on to digging trenches for sprinklers...

Those are some pretty awesome friends you have. We are probably going to start building a deck in the backyard soon and a friend of a friend has a bobcat that we will probably be using. It's so nice to have friends and friends that have friends.
I'm not that good a friend. I would have purchased better beer, and then just come and watched. :)
It's great that you have such awesome friends!!, but, I'm kind of concerned now that you don't have any interesting friends C;P Since they were all willing to move dirt for cheap beer (just joking!)
C:)
Hey dirt ain't cheep just ask the Enquirer!
I winced at the cost of the two yards I had delivered Saturday. Twenty yards, wow. I gotta say a Bobcat ranks right up there with a rachet tool and chocolate as an invention!
great friends, it's looking fantastic!
I stand by my very East Coasty statement that the tumbleweed is cool and you should enjoy it. Sing about "the tumblin' tummmmbleweeeeeeeed".
I wish someone would have bought us dirt for our wedding. Seriously. I spend a fortune on that crap every year.
You have the best friends ever!
Wow, those are good friends! I still can't get over how huge your yard is!! It amazes me!
Boy that was allot of dirt you had in the front of your house. That is great that so many of your friends came out and lended a helping hand. It's coming right along and so far looks awesome! I can't wait to see the finished product.
How do you always manage to make dirt sound so fun? :)
Um so ya, about those tumbleweeds, I say buy some marshmallows, chocolate bars, graham crackers, a Keg and some lighter fluid. have a bonfire! Oh and keep the hose nearby.
You've got bling!
That is awesome! Or they all have projects coming up are racking up help credits.
That's a lot of damn dirt.
Wow! Friends with bobcats? That is priceless :) Definitely get a "trencher" machine to dig next week. hubby had me digging them manually with a shovel for weeks!
Wow, you're lucky to have them. Because that looked like a hella work!
The people who were smart enough to sale dirt and water to people are the true geniuses of society. LOL!
Our friend is borrowing the bobcat from his friend and he is bringing it over on the 19th. I am so excited.
Son now if someone says I'm worth as much as dirt it's actually a good thing!!!
This is some back breaking labor going on here ALF.
um your lucky for your friends I would have all of sudden become pregnant lol Id have been there for lunch and beer though.
Hello I just entered before I have to leave to the airport, it's been very nice to meet you, if you want here is the site I told you about where I type some stuff and make good money (I work from home): here it is
So you got dirt for a gift? That must be sort of like when I get a Target gift card. I can never decide whether to write the thank you note saying I so enjoyed the cat litter I bought, or I so enjoyed the toilet paper. It's a toss up really...
How neat on the bobcat!
